YOUNGWOOD, Pennsylvania — State police are on the scene of a barricaded gunman situation in Youngwood.

State police have surrounded a home in the 400 block of S 4th Street.

Investigators said David Joseph Havranek came out of the home Tuesday morning and fired several shots, damaging property.

Investigators believe Havranek is still in the basement of the home. State police are urging residents in the immediate area to remain in their basements.

“We are concerned for the people in the nearby community.  If they could shelter in place, go to the basement.  If there’s an emergency, if they need to call state police, we will have guys come in and escort them for emergency purposes,” Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Steve Limani said.

Anyone has an emergency and needs to leave is asked to contact troopers at 724-832-3288.  Residents who need a place to stay warm can go to the Youngwood Fire Hall.

State police said a section of Route 119 in Youngwood remains closed because of the situation.  They force people to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

Westmoreland County Community College issued an alert on Twitter about this situation.

ALERT FOR WESTMORELAND COUNTY: SR 119 is currently closed in Youngwood as troopers are on the scene of a barricaded gunman situation. Please find an alternate route and avoid the area if possible. Will update with further details as they are available.
